La France (Lemoine).  9.0.  A flower that gives wonderful results in our soil and climate.  Blooms very large of true rose type.  Color a true uniform apple blossom pink, with crimson splashes on the guards.  Plant robust with tall strong stems which support well the enormous blooms.  In the years when La France is at its best, no flower in the pinks outranks it in the shows.  We consider it one of the ten greatest of all peonies.

LA FRANCE.
Species—P. albiflora.
Originated by Lemoine, 1901.

Description of bloom — Type of bloom rose. Form of bloom globular, compact. Not differentiated. Entirely transformed. Color (total effect) rose white 3 (8); guards splashed with crimson; collar same as guards; center clear; bloom uniform color throughout; secondary staminodes absent. The outer guard petals have a splash of crimson through the center deepening at the base. Fragrance very pleasant XX. Blooming time mid-season to late. Very large size.
Description of plant — Habit of plant erect, medium tall to tall, compact. Growth strong and healthy. Stem long, strong, reddish green. Blooming habit free. Buds borne in clusters, healthy. Foliage medium furnished, medium green, medium size ; veins reddish green.
Commercial value — For cut bloom extra good; landscape value extra good. Variety as a whole extra good.
Remarks— Very distinct variety. Perfect rose type.

We cannot give a list of more than fourteen varieties of peonies which we would recommend for cut flower purposes out of the list we are now growing. We have many varieties, but they have not been sufficiently tested as yet. The list is as follows: Amabilis Grandiflora, white, very large, double, fringed petals, fine, very sweet; Caroline Mather, purple crimson, large, double and very dark; Delicatissima, rose, large, full, fine, sweet; Duchesse de Nemours, rose-pink, very large, double, sweet, one of the best; Elegans, outside petals dark pink, large salmon center, loose, fine, sweet; Festiva Maxima, creamy white with small center of carmine, round, early, in clusters, sweet; Francoise Ortegat, dark purple crimson, very large, fine, deep, double, and sweet; Fulgida, very dark crimson, good; Humei, rose, full, large, late, one of the best; La France, pink outside petals, with yellowish center, very fine; Perfection, outside petals rose lilac, inside salmon, sweet; Reine Hortense, pink, large, full globular, fine, fragrant; Triumph du Nord, violet rose, lilac shade; Victoria, rose, center yellowish.
