Cahokia was the largest urban settlement of the Mississippian culture (located in what is now the central and southeastern United States). This ancient North American city existed from c. 1050-1350 CE, near present-day East St. Louis, Illinois. The Cahokia Mounds are thought to be the largest and most complex archaeological site in what is now the U.S.
