Seedlings Produced by Our Own Grower.
Out of the hundreds of seedlings we have watched blooming in our testing grounds for ten years or more, only four have reached the high standard of perfection which we have set as our ideal of really good peonies.
They have not been on the market long enough to be widely disseminated so that when the rating was made by the American Peony Society very few collectors had them in their gardens.
Mrs. Henry Kalle (1918)—Rose type. Very late. Flowers are large, opening perfectly, sometimes throwing lateral buds which develop before the main flower. Petals are shell shaped and slightly crinkled. Color is uniform deep rose pink with a suggestion of yellow at the base. Very strong, robust grower with tall, erect stems and magnificent foliage. This is the latest bloming peony yet produced, coming into bloom long after other varieties have flowered and gone. It bloomed the second week in July last year and is going to do the same this year, keeping its original clear color, withstanding the hot, bright sun wonderfully without burning or turning brown and opening into full perfect flowers without a blemish. The abundance of bloom, the marvelous coloring and the lateness of its flowering will make this a much sought for variety; it will lengthen the peony season many weeks, and prove a delightful acquisition to every collection. See illustration on front cover page. Each $20.00
