"Mrs. Pleas on Raising Seedling Peonies"
...Kelway's single white, The Queen, was our only plant bearing seeds, blooming before any other kind was open; it was not hybridized, yet from this one planting I have every color and shade from White Swan to Black Beauty. [...]
From this one planting of single white seeds came Elwood Pleas, Midsummer Night's Dream, Gem, Mary, Quaker Lady, Shabona, Mad. Pleas, and Rosy Dawn in doubles; and in singles, White Swan, Wild Rose, Golden Cushion, Pocahantas; among the Japanese, Dr. Edgar Pleas, Novelty, Altar Candles, and Golden Nugget represent the best. Mrs. Pleas' Estimate of Her Own Peonies
Single Varieties (a selection)
Wild Rose — Identical in color with our native wild Rose and Sweetbriar, and clustered the same, with the first-opened flowers fading the same; beautiful, greatly enlarged center of yellow stamens, fully three inches across in the nine-inch blooms, entirely concealing the stigmas.

Mrs. Pleas' Estimate of Her Own Peonies
by Sarah A. Pleas.
While there will be a majority in every 1000 seedlings that could be appropriately named Wild Rose my own sold under that name, is by far the largest and best I have seen and I did not bring any other single pink one here [to her new garden, started while she was in her 80's].  It should have 7 or 8 blooms on each stem, the largest full 9 inches across with a 3 inch downy golden cushion in the center entirely concealing the stigmas which others do not.
