'Eastern Queen' peony References
Magazine (7 Jul 1900) Page(s) 11. Recent New Plants. Pæny Eastern Queen.—If one desires a herbaceous single Pæony of strong colour, this novelty from Messrs. Wallace and Company of Colchester should find favour. Its flowers are conspicuous for their strength, the guard florets very broad and robust, and, overlapping, form quite a bold background to the splendid centre of old gold colour. One may well imagine the rich effect of a group of this variety.
Magazine (1900) Page(s) xci. Floral Committee, June 19th, 1900. Award of Merit. To Pæony 'Eastern Queen' (votes unanimous) from Messrs. Wallace, Colchester. A wonderfully pretty single Pæony, quite distinct, with broad, substantial rose-purple petals and a prominent cluster of petaloid stamens in the centre.
Magazine (7 Jul 1899) Page(s) 2. Editor's Table. We receive from Messrs. Wallace, of Colchester, blooms of a very beautiful range of single Pæonies in colourings of white, pink, rose and crimson. One named Eastern Queen received an award from the Royal Horticultural Society on Tuesday, the 19th ult. It is of a deep crimson colour, with a rich filling of the small strap-shaped petals crimped at the edge, that are so important a decorative feature in this class of Pæony. The flower is made all the brighter in that these are of a rich buttery yellow, stained with crimson towards the base. A white with lemon-coloured filling, called Lemon Queen, is also beautiful, and a soft pink with large petals and filling of nearly the same colouring is another lovely flower. There is a promising future for these Pæonies in the best garden use.
