A very understated climber. There are many attributes which hold it endearing to me. First and foremost is the lack of cane and hook thorns. It only has a very small thorn on the underside of the leaf, which is more pliable and doesn't seem to scratch you up, unless you are caught off-guard by them being placed there, and assume it's totally thornless.
After planting it, the growth was slow, and the entire plant mostly died back for me, but after 2 years, it sent up 2 new tall canes that topped 12' with flower buds on a couple laterals, as well as the arching cane tip. It seems to have rebounded well with a lot of patience. The fragrance is now stronger, being that its first year flowers were only lightly scented. These are more complex, with a higher number of total petals, combined with stronger honey/citrus fragrance. Petal count went from 6-9 the first year, with a new total of 18 on average this time, after nearly 5 years. This one seems to take time to establish itself, but has shown its resilience and disease resistance to be very high. It seems to do its best on its own roots.

Interesting reviews. It's my first year with this and I got it cause my wife wanted a yellow rose she could see out the kitchen window. The location was terrible, it gets a few hours of morning sun then it's in shade all day. And I'm in Ireland, our morning sun is rare ????. It has flourished and made 7 feet in its first season. It's still blooming and today it's very windy and 8c and now it is giving me beautiful fragrance. It has had zero bs or dm. The blooms are a little fragile and are upright , a deep yellow and don't last very long but there are always more buds to follow. Really looking forward to how it does next year as I'm training the canes already to encourage lateral breaks

I bought this rose when I first started growing roses and knew nothing. It was a 'body bag' at Home Depot. I planted it on the corner of my front porch. Since there is some shade there, it took awhile for it to reach some height, but when the canes got into sunlight, they took off. Yes, it's a blackspot magnet, but so are many others in my yard. It always seems to be the first in bloom and always has some flowers. When there are many blooms my porch is filled with the honey-like scent. Mine is now 14 years old with big thick canes, but they put out 4 new canes last year. And it's still going strong.

Oh well looks like this rose won't do well in my south african climate, we gets a lot of dew at night and rain in Jan Feb.

My local nursery only had few varieties so I had little choice. I bought, cocktail, nehema, blossom magic and this is the only thing left.

Would keeping it on the smaller side help, maybe a harsh prune.
