NO OFF SPRING! And for sure it was tried! The parents are notable, for what the parents are CV is notable? YET NOTHING on here, nothing EVER. It sets hips readily! They germinate! Tried it the past 3 years and somehow all seedlings with this as the Mother throw waaayyyy back to climbers that will not bloom the first year. That dang Captain Thomas gene?! Via Buccaneer???? Makes the "generic" Golden Showers somehow seem truly impressive!

Vintage Gardens may be having their swan song...........Cherry Vanilla just got released, looks like they have more than 10 of this one available...........this one grows amazingly own-root, absolutely no difference between the own root and a budded with this one in my experience............

I love this rose, always have and always will and am holding on to my strong growing band with all my might as this one is barely available any longer. Does anyone remember the catalogue pics of this one when it first came out? I was 6 and I screamed and yelled until my parents bought one those pics were so gorgeous..........it grows TALL, it has gorgeous foliage and actually quite unique, each leaf is edged in red and the leaf itself is lighter green............blooms generally come in awkward and odd 3's and even 2's (!) and if diusbudded the blooms can be immense in size and the color is truly ice cream, vanilla-white with a glowing pink edge and in full sun the pink continues to glow and take over............the blooms do shatter early, the form can be great but even then is fleeting, there is no scent and iin my experiences over 40 years most of the time the plant is more leaf than flower..............in zone 6a I rate hardiness average to somewhat above and the same with disease resistance............not an excellent rose I admit, but probably better in my opinion than its ratings have ever shown.........more of a "lost in the shuffle" and "slightly over marketed at debut" sort of situation I think more than being weak or sickly and so on...............

2 months since I posted above: little band has shot out 3 fat basals, one of which is a good 3 feet tall...........has been upgraded to a 10 gallon pot and placed in my "heavy hitter" line up. Very little difference between budded and band with this one so far, actually the band seems to BLOOM more than the budded............the pink, as the bloom ages, just "glows" and although it should never be expected, if you sit back and enjoy this one for what it is...........every so often a stunning, exhibition form bloom appears...........I just got one!
