Many thanks Darrell. I have added this reference. You have enabled us to put the bred year back from 1940 to 1937. It seems as though it has lost a petal or two over the years.

When you look at Dainty Maid's descendants, she has 6 direct descendants listed. But only one of them, Constance Spry, has descendants of her own - being the founder of more than 100 Austin cultivars! Dainty Maid is a floribunda with 5 petals and yet it is the ancestor to so many quite distinct roses. To me it's a mystery why it was chosen as a parent (but a good choice obviously).

There is an article in the 1953 The Rose Annual page 118 by the breeder, Edward Le Grice on what he considered his masterpiece 'Dusky Maiden' 1947 and what he was looking for in the breeding.
