Bred by Jean Laffay (France, before 1826).
Introduced in Australia by Law, Somner Pty. Ltd. in 1886 as 'Amadis'.

Boursault, Hybrid Pendulina.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Mild fragrance.  Semi-double to double bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Thornless (or almost).  
Height of 13' 1" (400 cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to rust .  
Notes:
Nigel Pratt at Tasman Bay Roses says this rose has long, arching, semi-climbing canes bearing clusters of crimson to purple flowers...
