The Australian Rose Award 2002. Mr. Richard Walsh….is a skilled exhibitor and a keen rose breeder, two of his seedling roses …. and ‘Wollongong Gold’ have won awards in the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia.

Richard Walsh. Mixing types is good. After my double floribunda cross start, I moved into mainly floribunda/hybrid tea crosses for some time. One of the most successful (bronze medal in the National Rose Trial Garden 2001) was ‘Wollongong Gold’ (cream really), developed in 1986 from ‘Violet Carson’ (predominantly pink with cream reverse floribunda) x ‘Arizona’ (orange blend HT). It makes an excellent bedding rose, repeats quickly and only grows to about 1 metre.
