Bred by Jean-Pierre Vibert (France, 1845).

Class:

Found Rose, Damask Perpetual, Portland.

Bloom:

Deep pink. Center crown. Strong fragrance. Average diameter 2.75". Large, full (26-40 petals), globular bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom. Fragrant buds.

Habit:

Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, spreading, upright, well-branched. Dark green, wrinkled (rugose) foliage.

Height: 5' (150cm). Width: up to 5' (up to 150cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 5b and warmer. Can be used for garden, landscape or shrub. Hardy.

Parentage:

seedling of Belle de Trianon (damask perpetual, Calvert/Vibert, 1829)

Notes:

Ashdown Roses formerly sold 'Amanda Patenaude' but has subsequently discovered that it was actually "The Portland From Glendora." Anyone who bought 'Amanda Patenude' from Ashdown is actually growing the found rose, "The Portland From Glendora." This information is summarized at the Ashdown website in the Rose Library under 'Amanda Patenude.'
"Mac Gregor's Damask" is the same rose as "Portland From Glendora," which is sold elsewhere in the USA as both "Glendora" and as 'Joasine Hanet.' Both "Mac Gregor's Damask" and "Portland From Glendora" originated from the same found rose grown at the Huntington in San Marino, California and first collected by Fred Boutin.
