Origin:
Bred by Samuel Davidson McGredy III (United Kingdom, 1930).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1934 as 'Southport'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Crimson - scarlet.  An even colour which does not fade or blue.  Moderate fragrance.  up to 20 petals.  Small to medium, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, upright.  Light green foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Prefers cool sites..  rain tolerant.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Can have a sheen or a "bloom" as in a plum or a grape.
