H. A. Verschuren .... took up hybridizing late inlife and achieved a great success with Etoile de Hollande and Hortulanus Budde in 1919. Souvenir de H. A. Verschuren represents the culmination of his work. He died in 1921 and his sons named the rose in his memory.
