Book (1978) Page(s) 124. 'Rudolph Timm' Medium + Pale pink Remontant P4 H3 ** An excellent rose for hardiness and health, but rarely grown because its flowers are very pale, semi-double, and not particularly exciting. It may yet prove important to the future, for I believe it has much to offer rose breeders, being another gift to them from Wilhelm Kordes. It was introduced in 1951, and raised from a significant strain ('Johannes Boettner' x 'Magnifica') x ('Baby Château' x 'Else Poulsen' ). This being interpreted brings in a double dose of 'Baby Château' and 'Else Poulsen', with which we are already familiar, and mixes with them a Sweet Briar; for 'Magnifica' was a seedling of one of Lord Penzance's Sweet Briars, 'Lucy Ashton'. The importance of that new blood, and of 'Rudolph Timm' as a donor, have not, I think, been generally appreciated. My own tribute to 'Rudolph Timm' is to have raised 'Saga' and 'Margaret Merril' from it, and I have to own that the idea of using it was not mine, but Major-General Frank Naylor' s.
