Book (Jul 1998) Page(s) 215. Esther Vibert, 1845. Habit: upright shrub (1,20 m to 1,50 m tall); some rare prickles, bristles. Foliage: medium green ; rounded leaflets. Bloom: abundant bloom; in clusters of 3 to 9; small, double, quartred; small button eye in the centre; petals slightly reflexed. Colour: pink shaded carmine, lighter in the circumference. Fragrance: moderate. References: Guillot, catal. 1847, p. 18; Hardy, catal. of Luxembourg, ca. 1852-1860; Moreau-Robert, catal. 1862, nr. 964, and following catalogues; Vibert, catal. 1845, nr. 734. Trade: yes, but rare. Collections: author, Gap-Charance, L'Haÿ, Sangerhausen. ...Vibert actually named already a first Gallica as 'Esther' : catalogue of 1819 (nr. 599) and following. It must have died out or was abandoned. This 'Esther' has 'Duchesse d'Oldenbourg' as a synonym. Then Vibert, according to his unfortunate habit, retook this name for a novelty of 1845, the current 'Esther', which he described in his catalogue of 1845 as : "medium, double, pink, mottled with wine-red".
