Northland, NZ (zone 11). This poor thing was bought as a tiny own-root, planted winter 2022 and subsequently shaded, drowned and eaten back by possums (may their mouths be stuffed with thorns). It is variously described as "low-growing" and "tall" by local websites; in its first year it grew sideways and at odd angles, but now that the sky above is clear and it's surrounded by perennials it seems to be sending up strong new canes. Can't imagine why
