Brown to the ground, first winter, zone 5b. Might still come back, but April 19th it's fully brown. Fingers crossed.

I've had this rose since May 2012, and only planted it in my Zone 6b garden as opposed to keeping it as a container rose because it got too big too fast!
I hadn't heard many reports on its cold-hardiness, but it survived a harsh CT winter with very little dieback. I'm guessing it's probably hardy to zone 5? Now that the weather has warmed up, it's growing fast and the dark red color of the new foliage is very striking in my garden.

"Dr. Buck's notes indicate Whisky Mac as the pollen parent. He does use Whisky Mac in other crosses, and does not use Whisky."
Question: HMF lists Whisky and Whisky Mac as the same rose, so do Dr. Buck's notes make sense if this is true? Thanks!

'Whisky Mac', a 1968 hybrid tea by Tantau was mostly called as such, but it did gain a synonym of 'Whisky'. HelpMeFind also lists a 'Whisky' 1964 Floribunda by Delforge. Both roses are approximately the same colour.

Thanks, Patricia. Matters would certainly be simplified if rosarians decided to stop using names already in use, even if the rose was no longer in commerce.

Yes. It is enough to drive one to drink, isn't it.
