Feu Pernet-Ducher. Modern, Large-flowered hybrid tea. Medium yellow. Repeat flowering.
This variety is an important rose, because it is one of the parents of the ever popular ‘Diamond Jubilee’, which is a Large-flowered Rose that was named to commemorate Jackson & Perkins sixtieth year of rose growing. The very large and double, open flowers of ‘Feu Pernet-Ducher’, are deep cream with buff or apricot centers, and have a rather fruity fragrance and an old-fashioned look. Like ‘Diamond Jubilee’, Feu Pernet-Ducher’ is upright in habit, although it makes a taller bush. The flowering is profuse and the disease resistance is good. Zones 4-9. Mallerin, France, 1935. (Parentage): ‘Julien Potin’ x ‘Margaret McGredy’. Portland Gold Medal 1936.

Feu Pernet Ducher, with its unique foliage and splendidly shaped blooms of deep yellow with slight carmine markings on the outer petals, balls all to[o] readily in wet weather, unfortunately. We rarely see it at its best in Melbourne, but it is a wonderful rose in climates that are drier and warmer, especially at night.

The season suited the big, full Roses, and varieties that are apt to ball in wet or damp weather opened perfectly. At one show I saw a superb bloom of Feu Pernet Ducher, a variety which I gave up as hopeless because good blooms were rare; the majority invariably "balled" and rotted and the whole crop was ruined.

Feu Pernet Ducher (this is one of the best yellow Roses I have ever seen, as it blooms freely all the year, being very healthy; good foliage, strong stems, producing excellent show blooms at all times and being at its best in the autumn; it has a tremendous lot of petals which build up a big shapely flower of deep yellow colour with a deep scarlet colour through the edge of the petals; a very fine rose that takes pot shading wonderfully: a very easy Rose to grow.)
