p96-2 Alick Ross, Ashton, SA. Some of the Newer Roses in South Australia. 'Lady Hudson' has large, full flowers but is outclassed by 'Barbara Richards', which it resembles.

p133-7 Mr. Alex Ross, Ashton, South Australia, opens up a question of considerable interest regarding the variation [in intensity of colour] that manifests itself in varieties when worked on different understocks. ……A further interesting fact was that Roses of Pernetiana origin showed the greater difference….. [while] other sorts such as 'Dame Edith Helen', 'Daily Mail Scented', 'Barbara Richards' and others with more of a leaning to the H.T. not being affected to such a great extent…..

George M. Taylor. The Perfume of Modern Roses. The “old rose scent” with all due deference to the popular 'Barbara Richards', which is alleged to be an exception to the rule – never, as far as I am aware, occurs in yellow Roses.
Book  (1941)

p47-2 Norman Lambert. The Quest of the Perfect Rose. 'Barbara Richards' has many claims to greatness as an all-round variety.

p99-3 Leonard Hollis. The Best of the Yellow Roses. 'Barbara Richards' (H.T.) Maize yellow, flushed rose. The blooms are large and full, of spiral formation, and can easily be grown to exhibitors’ size. The plants have a nice short-jointed habit of growth and are quite free blooming enough for garden display. The colouring is not very distinct, and I have some doubts as to whether Barbara really is yellow within the scope of my definition. Her exquisite old world perfume make her unique among Roses in this colour group, and perhaps compensates for the poor carriage of the bloom. She is not really happy in wet weather.

p156-3 N. P. Harvey. Cambridge. But (I) give a right royal welcome to 'Barbara Richards', failing to understand those who consider the colour weak

p170-3 The Rose Analysis. On comparing Table 3 with that given in last year’s Rose Annual we find that 'Barbara Richards' leads the Table by no less than 40 points above those of her nearest neighbour. That is rather remarkable because with me, although she is a good grower, she has the unfortunate fault of what the late Mr. Frank Cant used to call “Nodding her head.”
Book  (1940)  Page(s) 16.
