Dr. A. S. Thomas.  A Victorian Summary.
Maurice (one plant, one year) is not new in U.S.A., where some people value it highly as an exhibition variety. Produced by S. McGredy and Son, it is vigorous and freely produces well formed flowers in shades that vary from deep pink to almost red, with quite a lot of yellow at the base of each of the large leathery petals.

'McGredy's Triumph'. Geranium red, heavily flushed with orange. Blooms are large and of perfect form but open rather early, as they only carry out 20 to 25 petals. A beautiful variety.

McGredy's Triumph has also done wonderfully well this season. It is not a good cutting Rose, but the large blooms are very effective in the garden.

Two good standard Roses to plant in a poor or sandy soil are McGredy's Triumph and Mrs. Hy. Morse. They are strong growers and free flowerers. McGredy's Triumph, in a good soil, is just the opposite; its flowers come very coarse.

Among the flaunting colours, I have great respect for McGredy's Triumph. When visitors who have "come to see my Roses" exhibit pronounced signs of disappointment at the proportion of blooms to trees, and the demureness of the former beneath their protectors, I edge them along to the bed when Triumph is blazing a rampant trial. I like his fine contempt for adverse conditions, attempts to prune, disbud or confine him. He just flings out more red wood, with foliage to match, and half a dozen flowers at the end with great petals splashed with blood and gold. I know he has very few of these splendid petals, but if you do catch him at the right moment his colour may very well strike a winning blow for you.

McGredy's Triumph.- Geranium red, heavily flushed with orange; both foliage and flowers are very striking. Vigorous, but rather "sprawly" growth.

McGredy's Triumph saddens me. Dr. McFarland thinks highly of it, so it may want another climate and fewer trees.

Mc Gredy's Triumph, au beau feuillage et larges fleurs rouges géranium teinté d'orange, arbuste plein de santé, est très apprécié.
