Haddington Gallica. Breeder unknown, date uncertain... Dark purple-red, yellow center... Haddington, possibly Thomas Hamilton, Earl of Haddington, favorite of James VI of Scotland; or Haddington, county town of East Lothian, Scotland.

HADDINGTON. Habit: upright shrub; tiny prickles, bristles. Foliage: light green; elliptical leaflets, quite small, the more younger edged with a reddish border. Bloom: solitary, sometimes by 2 to 3; medium size, semi-double, visible stamens; flat ; small centre eye. Colour: deep velvety purple; edged red; ages to violet. Fragrance: moderate. ...the bloom of "Haddington" is rounder than that of "Tuscany Superb", its tint is deeper (not shaded vivid purple as "Tuscany Superb"); the crown of stamens is more visible. The differences, however, are minimal...
