Don Sheppard. Final Analysis 1988-89
Ragtime MACcourlod; McGredy 1983. ('Mary Sumner' x Seedling); 25-35 petals; handpainted red/cream; 41 reports; 66 bushes; 1-5 years; 45cm; 7.5 rating. Only two really low pointings, both from Otago area, who gave it 6.0, saying that though it grows well, colouring is unusual and there is plenty of bloom, rain completely ruins the blooms. Everywhere else in the country this mini receives praise for its unusual, eyecatching colour, good bloom form - perhaps best when fully open - lovely foliage, which is bronze-green when young, dark green later, good growth and general health. Several reporters said that repeat can be a little slow. Blooms can be used for exhibiting and for garden display. 'Ragtime' is very worthwhile.

p56 [Photo] Ragtime McGredy 1983. ‘Mary Sumner’ x seedling. The first McGredy handpainted miniature released in New Zealand. Every bloom is different – pinky or coral reds often edged with splashed silver white. At its best when fully open showing the yellow stamens. Will bloom right through winter in mild climates. Full of surprises.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1987-88 Season
Ragtime MACcourlod; McGredy 1983; "hand painted" pink/red; 7 reports; 9 bushes; 2-6 years; 45cm; 7.4 rating. All reporters like this cultivar for its unusual coloured blooms, which are best at the fully open stage - and they open fairly quickly - the bronzy coloured new foliage and the way the bush grows. The repeat is a little slow, but the bush is mainly healthy. Unfortunately, rain will ruin the blooms. Recommended from Southland to Northland as very, very worthwhile.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1986-87 Season
Ragtime McGredy 1981. hand-painted pink/red; 30 petals; 13 reports; 21 bushes; 1-5 years; 40cm; 7.8 rating. Makes unusual fully open blooms, but there is some fading and flowers can be a little large. Easily described as a pink 'Matangi'. All reporters are enthusiastic and recommend this cultivar as a great, healthy garden rose.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1985-86 Season.
Ragtime McGredy 1983. ('Mary Sumner' x Seedling). Hand-painted pink-red; 25-35 petals; 6 reports; 10 bushes; 1-3 years, 40cm. 8.0 rating. This cultivar is at its best at the fully open stage, as the yellow stamens really stand out and make the blooms most enchanting. The petals are frilled at the edges. The buds open fast, but repeat can be slowish. Growth habit is spreading, yet tidy, and it is healthy. "A magnificent garden Mini", sums up a Christchurch reporter.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1984-85 Season.
Ragtime McGredy 1983 ('Mary Sumner' x Seedling). 25-35 petals. Handpainted cream/red. 4 reports, 5 bushes, 1 year, 30 cms. 7.4 rating. Auckland has a struggling bush, he's only had a few blooms. Timaru says it is a miniature 'Matangi', the petals drop well, and he feels it has potential. Gisborne again describes it as a small version of 'Matangi', has good repeat and is healthy. Christchurch feels the bloom is too large, but this mini will be very popular when better known. The foliage is dark and healthy.
