Romantica ® 76 Meinaregi
Rose Meilland 1976. C'est une belle rose élégante aux 45 pétales vermillon écarlate, dont la perfection des formes se maintient jusqu'au complet épanouissement. Sa bonne tenue en vase sera très appréciée pour la décoration d'intérieur. Végétation haute, environ 110 cm. Léger parfum.

Romantica '76 HT. (Meilland, 1976). Parentage not given. As seen at Meilland's nursery in 1973 and 1976, this is probably the best of the many vermilion cultivars. Blooms on my young plants are smaller than those so far. The same hybridist distributed a pink cultivar under the name of 'Romantica' in 1962 but as that rose is no longer in cultivation the name has been released officially for re-use. However, Meilland has added '76' to the name for the new rose in order to avoid any possible confusion.

The Meillands, as on four former occasions, were most generous in time, information and hospitality. We were taken again to what they call "the farm".... The best hybrid tea, I thought, was Romantica '76' which I described in 1974 [*] under its nursery name 'Regina'. It is the best vermilion rose yet, as I saw it in southern France.

* No mention of 'Romantica' or 'Regina' was found in Dr. Thomas 1974 article in the 'Australian Rose Annual'
