Hi Janet.......

'Painter's Palette' is often classified as a miniature climber, but it is a true miniature rose.

When a rose is classified as a miniature rose it doesn't make any difference if the size of the mature plant is less than a foot tall or well over eight or nine feet tall. The classification is based upon the size of the bloom.

The reason the mini-flora class was developed was that the blooms on these roses were too large to be called miniatures, yet too small to fit into the floribunda class. Plant habit has nothing to do with the classification.

I planted my 'Painter's Palette' early last summer, starting with a tiny plant of less than 4" tall. By the end of the season the canes had grown to at least two feet. I am planning on training the rose as a pillar rose so that I can get the most bloom. It's a lovely rose.

Another example of a large plant that is still classified as a miniature rose is 'Little Carol' hybridized by Dee Bennett. The plant will grow to over 4 feet tall, but the blooms are small enough to only fit into the miniature rose class.
