Olympic Torch, HT. (Suzuki, 1966) ('Rose Gaujard' x 'Crimson Glory'). Won the top award in the New Zealand trials in 1971, five years after its introduction on the Japanese market. The flowers are white with red edges when young; as they age the red spreads over the petals. I grew it for two years and discarded it in April 1974. There are hundreds of better roses.

Olympic Torch HT. (Suzuki). White with a pink edge which deepens as the flower ages. The well-formed blooms are good, having about forty petals. The plant is healthy and vigorous, with very clean foliage. This one appears to bloom a little late in the spring, but at times this can be an asset.
Book  (1972)  Page(s) 143.

New Zealand gardeners are favoured by their nurserymen with new roses, in many instances, two or three years earlier than are we Australians.  'Olympic Torch' is a splendid show rose with almost white petals edged with deep carmine.... They are both in Australia but it is anybody's guess when they will be released, especially 'Olympic Torch' - 1972 is possible but not probable.
