I haven't noticed a spice fragrance from this rose; under the right conditions, it is a rich, attar-like perfume that wafts.

Much nicer photos have already been posted here, we have had way too much rain, 17 inches since the end of winter, and we usually receive 24 inches of rain per year!

This rose is very fragrant-not so much to the nose, but the scent wafts. The intensity of fragrance, and the size of the blooms is the same as for Marie Daly. I have planted both of them near each other, and it was almost overwhelming earlier this spring. Bayse's Blueberry is close by but Gruss an Zabern finished up before Bayse's started blooming; we're back to the same level of rose scents wafting by the kitchen door.

The petals are thin and silky and they leave a soft rose scent on your hands-and your hands feel softer. While the rain mats the petals down, the blooms hold until ready to fall; you can shake off the water, and they will look a bit better, but the blooms still nod. The blooms start off with a light blush at the ends of the petals, but fade to white, and are small, about 1 inch.

I wish this rose would continue to bloom all season. It has clear yellow fall color on most of the leaves.

Zabern = Saverne and Saverne is in Alsace not in Lorraine...
