‘Crimson Conquest’/’Red-Letter Day Grimpant’: Grimpant à grandes fleurs... sa végétation plutôt souple le rapproche des rosiers lianes, ce qui le rend aisé à conduire sur pergola… feuillage vert sauge… rouge velouté de ses petites fleurs semi-doubles, cramoisi éclairé d’écarlate, épanouies en début d’été, groupées en larges bouquets et légèrement odorantes… vigoureux et se ramifie bien. ‘Crimson Conquest’ Origin. Chaplin Bros., USA, 1931. Breeding: ‘Red Letter Day’ sport. Hybrid Tea with unknown parentage. Medium sized, semi-single, rich crimson flowers are borne in clusters with dark green lush foliage on a healthy plant. Growth upright and angular. An excellent and under-rated climber which perpetuates a famous old Tea rose now extinct. I have planted it where it can arch freely over the bank near our pond. Summer flowering. Size 4.5 x 2.5m.

Ramblers and Their Relatives. ‘Crimson Conquest’ (1931). Not unlike ‘Bloomfield Courage’ but with larger single crimson flowers. Blooms are profuse and fragrant and appear in large clusters on a strong-growing plant.

p187 ‘Crimson Conquest’ and ‘Chaplin’s Crimson Glow’ are further along, and between each rose is a tall-growing fuchsia to give colour when the flowers of the climbers are over. All these are well-known plants in New Zealand….

p198 On the boundary fence the strong climbers ‘Paul’s Scarlet’, ‘Crimson Conquest’ and ‘Chaplin’s Crimson Glow’ are interplanted with two vigorous, hardy fuchsias Beauty of Exeter and Star of the East, both in tones of rosy-red, and both requiring hard pruning at the end of each season. We generally cut back the roses and the fuchsias at the same time….
