I recently ordered Mystic Beauty, and was surprised to learn that this rose is a pink sport of Kronprinzessin Viktoria, which is a white sport of the pink Souvenir de la Malmaison. Is it possible that Mystic Beauty is a reversion, rather than a new sport? It’d be genetically identical to SDLM, no?

Possibly, but you'd have to compare them side by side and evaluate.
I've grow both and still have KV. To my mind KV is different in it's growth habit and petal count among other things.
I suspect 'Mystic Beauty' is likely different enough to be considered it's own cultivar.
I have never grow Mystic Beauty but I've heard it's distinct and quite nice.

Thank you for your reply. Kronprinzessin Viktoria does have pointier petals than SDLM, so maybe Mystic Beauty does, as well. I’m looking forward to finding out! Rose genetics really are fascinating (and complicated).

If I understand correctly, rose DNA testing at its current level of detail wouldn't show any difference between those three roses.

I grow KV side by side with Souvenir de La Malmaison. KV's blooms rarely exhibit the formality of its genetic twin.
