L'étude du parfum des roses par Neville F. Miller, spécialiste dans ce domaine, est fort intéressante mais très compliquée pour celui dont le vocabulaire chimique est assez pauvre même dans sa langue maternelle, je vais donc faire mon mieux pour me tirer de cette tâche avec le minimum d'erreurs. (American Rose Annual 1963) ...L'auteur a étudié 170 variétés sous différentes conditions atmosphériques et constaté l'existence de plus de 25 parfums élémentaires et de beaucoup de combinaisons de ceux-ci. Les plus fréquents sont : capucine, iris, violette, pomme, orange, citron, girofle, géranium. Un tableau groupe les 34 parfums principaux et composés, les variétés correspondantes étant rangées en conséquence...

President Macia. A very different rose, of delicate shell pink with a deeper reverse to the petals. The graceful big bud opens in an unusually large bloom with airily waved petals, like a super-waterlily. This is a rose for warm to hot climates, and the bloom can stand unlimited sun. The bush is strong and vital, of splendid shape and clothed with firm foliage. The blossoms also are notable for the splendid thick smooth substance of the petals. Delicately fragrant, a fine rose rapidly becoming known and much admired. When it gets hot it develops copper and gold tints that make the big bud breath-taking.

Dans la gamme des roses, où pourrions-nous trouver une plus délicate harmonie de rose incarnat et de rose saumoné, et ce qui ne gâte rien, ceci sur une très grande fleur étoilée, que chez « Président Macia », de Leenders. Mais le bois du rosier est bien frêle pour de si grandes fleurs, bien étalé et d'une rusticité qui n'est pas à toute épreuve.
