I'm amazed how little attention this rose gets. In our garden (southern Sweden) it is an absolutely excellent performer. Not only does it flower in great abundance, it also sports a very healthy and disease-free foliage. Sure it's not as petal packed and pretty as Amadeus, but since we grow both it has become obvious that Tradition outperforms Amadeus by far in terms of vigor.

For some reason or other I seem to have a problem with the dark red/blood red climbers. I have tried out a number of them in my garden, but they don`t seem to like me very much as they are lacking in thriving and I am at a loss to know why. I guess the reason for this is that I have a special penchant for these dark red climbers. One of the few that has decided to show pity on me is this one. This vigorous climber with its beautiful dark red semi filled flowers showing the "yellow eye"has consequently become one of my favourites.It is said to bloom in flushes. In my garden there is a more or less continuous flowering throughout the season. It seems to have a certain rambling quality as well in that it is easy to lead in wanted directions I have three of them in my garden. One of which is a bit exposed to the nasty northwest winds and a second is vying for a fair share of sunshine. All three are doing quite well indeed. As the older stems and canes of this rose tend to look withered and dead, my advice is to make sure before cutting back.
