A testimonial to the influence of WORLD’S FAIR on the color of BRAVO was a remark by Francis Meilland when he saw it growing in our field. We were walking slowly along the rows of new varieties in our nursery when he came to a stop looking at BRAVO. I remarked that we were going to introduce the variety but that we wished it were a stronger grower. Francis looked at me and said: (in his delightful French accent), “But Mr. Swim – the colour, the colour !” That was indeed the sterling quality of BRAVO.

Harry H. Hazlewood. Some New Roses for 1955.
Bravo (Swim, 1951) has done particularly well and improVed in growth considerably. It carries dark crimson exhibition blooms with big broad petals and keeps its colour very well under heat.

Harry H. Hazlewood. The New Roses of 1954. Bravo, HT. (Swim, 1951). A very welcome addition to our dark crimson exhibition roses. The blooms carry 25 to 35 thick, heavy petals which keep their colour particularly well under extreme heat. There is a slight fragrance, while the growth, which is not over vigorous, is robust and healthy. The parentage is given as ‘Mirandy’ x ‘Minna Kordes’.
