Miralba. Before 1841. Habit: less upright than the gallica-type; 1,80 m high; many hooked prickles; few bristles. Foliage: medium to light green; small elliptical leaflets, quite fine and pointed, often only 3 per leaf. Bloom: sometimes solitary, in clusters of 2 or 3; small, double, rosette-form. Colour: shaded and velvety violet-carmine. Fragrance: moderate. Sources: Laffay, catal. 1841.... This variety is generally listed among hybrid chinas: this is notably the case in Sangerhausen. We retain it among the Gallicas as its habit is not very diffferent than those of other "French Roses", its colour is frequent in this category, and finally, it does not repeat....Dickerson dates "Miralba" to 1830 and attributes it to Laffay, this is an error. In fact, in his catalogue of 1841, the latter mentions this variety, but does not present it as having issued from his seedlings; he describes it as "velvety crimson-maroon, full, flat, medium, beautiful". Let us note that old catalogues always call it "Miralba" and never "Miralda" as at Sangerhausen and as in the Nomenclature of Simon and Cochet...
