Origin:
Bred by R. S. Soetemans (Belgium, before 1840).
Introduced in Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861 as 'Madame Zöetmans'.
Class:
Damask.  
Bloom:
Cream, buff shading, ages to white .  Strong fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), flat bloom form.  Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.  
Habit:
Upright, well-branched.  

Height: up to 4' (up to 120cm).  Width: up to 3' (up to 90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Vigorous.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
This rose is often confused in commerce and gardens with 'Madame Hardy', which has a prominent green eye. In 'Madame Soetemans' (Zoutmans' the eye is (almost) completely covered by petals. See description of 1869.
