Book (1956) Page(s) 17. Dr. A. S. Thomas. New Roses Since 1948. Helene de Roumanie is a thorny tall grower producing long coppery-red buds that open a little too quickly, but otherwise this is a very good rose.
Book (1955) Page(s) 24. Harry H. Hazlewood. Some New Roses for 1955. Helene de Roumanie (Meilland, 1949): Extra long rich pink pink buds opening to double blooms rather lighter in colour. It has a vigorous tall growth after the style of one of its parents—'President H. Hoover'. It has been particularly good here.
Book (1954) p145. Mr. Harry Bennett, N.Z. Helene de Roumanie red to pink; an improved Comtesse Vandal.
p150. Mr. F.H. Vincent, N.Z. Fernand Arles, Helene de Roumaine and Ulster Monarch are all good new roses. The flowers of the first and second may not all be of show standard, but are very decorative.

Book (1953) Page(s) 129. Dr. A. S. Thomas. New Roses Helene de Roumanie (Meilland, 1949) promises to be a very tall growing variety like President Herbert Hoover, Elite and others. I am not fond of that type of plant, but the blooms make up for any such faults. The semi-double flowers are vivid coppery red in their early stages and fade to a deep pink as they age - fading is an unjust description, perhaps, for it almost implies loss of beauty and brilliance, and that is not so in this instance; it merely changes to a lighter colour.
