Roi Alexander was rather pale early, but in the autumn gave some very richly coloured blooms. It will, I think, give its best colour on older plants.

I am just a little disappointed in King Alexander I; it has not come up to expectations. When at its best it is very good, but whether climatic conditions have not favoured it recently I cannot say. I have had a tremendous lot of blooms that have lacked the beautiful colour originally obtained, and at times they are almost malformed. In maturer plants it may improve.

p108.   Mr. S. J. Bisdee.  Tasmanian Notes.
Roi Alexander.- Fair growth, good foliage, and, in spring, very insipid colour, but in summer the colour was very beautiful—a very pretty blend of many shades. The bud was quite round and squat, which rather spoilt its appearance.

Roi Alexander. Strong, erect growth with good foliage. The colour has been very variable. Some blooms have been quite pale, while others have shown fair colour; but, apart from the growtn, it has shown no outstanding qualities so far.

Number one position [in the Fancy Roses] this season is given to Roi Alexander, HT. (Gaujard, 1937) with its shapely buds, opening to rather flat blooms of 45 to 50 petals. The colour is extremely attractive, reddish copper in bud, opening to rich golden copper with a yellow base. A pleasing feature is that the growth is really vigorous.

King Alexander I. (Gaujard).-Reddish copper, opening to golden copper; 45 petals. An attractive fancy colour, but not sufficiently free flowering or vigorous.

on a limited acquaintance... King Alexander I  - Reddish copper, opening to a richly coloured Rose in the way of Mevrouw G. A. Van Rossem, minus the golden yellow showing in that variety. Blooms are of good shape. It has bronze green foliage, like Pernetiana, and fair growth.
