Don Sheppard. Final Analysis 1988-89.
Takapuna MACtenni. McGredy 1978. ['New Penny' x ('Clare Grammerstorf' x 'Cavalcade') x 'Elizabeth of Glamis']. Peachy pink; 42 reports; 83 bushes; 1-7 years; 50cm; 7.4 rating. Very few reporters rated this mini below 7.0 and only then because they felt the open blooms faded too quickly and it should have more petals. The rest of the country really liked it for its prolific trusses of lovely coloured blooms - even if a trifle large for the purist. The colour fades a little in most areas, but even so most growers are happy with it. Blooms hold well and repeat is quick. The foliage is mid-green, but red spiders like it and powdery mildew can attack. All in all, a very good, pleasing mini in all respects anywhere in the country.

p61 [photo] Takapuna McGredy 1978. ‘New Penny’ x [(Clare Grammerstorf x ‘Cavalcade) x ‘Elizabeth of Glamis]. Large trusses of pink well-shaped blooms on a healthy bush. Produces good decorative blooms and looks good on a standard.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1987-88 Season
Takapuna MACtenni. McGredy 1978. Salmon; 8 reports; 13 bushes; 1-9 years; 50cm; 7.0 rating. Northland says it is insignificant and lacks enough petals. Auckland finds the blooms unattractive but the bush, etc., good. All reporters are more than satisfied that, although it is not extremely outstanding, it is a good, honest, free flowering, healthy mini. The blooms open quickly, but repeat is very fast. An excellent border mini for all conditions and places.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1986-87 Season
Takapuna McGredy 1978. salmon; 3 reports; 4 bushes; 1-4 years; 40cm; 7.6 rating. Free flowering and fragrant. Best as an opening bud, as it fades easily and the foliage sometimes burns. Auckland and Canterbury think it could and should be better.
Book  (1986)  Page(s) 129.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1985-86 Season.
Takapuna McGredy 1978; ('New Penny' x ('Clare Grammerstorf' x 'Cavalcade') x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'); peachy-pink; 5 reports; 6 bushes; 3 years; 60cm; 8.2 rating. Stratford reports fast fading, large trusses and a healthy bush. Franklin says it is very floriferous and tall. Kapiti reporters find it very showy, holds well, grows well and needs plenty of space. One reporter says it is almost a "patio" rose. Dunedin says it makes a marvellous standard!

Takapuna MACtenni. McGredy 1978. 'New Penny' x (['Clare Grammerstorf' x 'Cavalcade'] x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'). The medium-sized double flowers of peach pink are borne on a free flowering tall spreading bush. Another of the larger-growing miniature roses.
Book  (1984)  Page(s) 42.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1983-84 Season.
Takapuna McGredy 1978. 'New Penny' x ('Clare Grammerstorf' x 'Cavalcade') x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'. Peachy pink. 6 reports, 8 bushes, 3 years, Average height 45cm, N.R.S. rating 8.0. Of 25 petals and 1 1/2" diameter these blooms are fairly fleeting, but repeat is quick. It makes a grand garden show. The growth is vigorous, bush compact - generally it is healthy. Auckland feel the bloom is too big for a mini.
