I am trying to devide between PJ & Alnwick for my zone 6 garden. I am looking for a fragrant flower that blooms frequently, is disease resistant, and can survive our harsh winters. The spot it will go in gets lots of afternoon shade. Any suggestions which one of these would be best for me? Ty

I have this variety and have seen it many times at a local rose garden and it is one the best, richest and strongest fragrances I've come across, which is the main reason I bought one (the other main ones were the low, compact growth habit and how prolifically they flower). I wouldn't say it's a myrrh fragrance, though. To me it is pure sweet.

First year in the pot for me. Very fragrant, and disease free for me. Very full blooms. Nice!

Pretty Jessica is one of the better Austins ever produced. While not thornless, it has about 1/4 or 1/2 the thorns of most roses. The growth habit is very small. Blooms on a mature rose are upright and globular. I don't see growth getting over 3' for this rose. Another plus compared to most Austins, is that Pretty Jessica's blooms have a relatively long lifespan anywhere from 3 days to a week. The rose is vigorous and floriferous and has been disease free for me in Z6 Cbus, OH. Fragrance is also a strong old rose fragrance. A stellar choice as a potted rose....in which I currently have it as.
