This picture is from The rose annual 1967, published by The Royal National Rose Society. St. Albans, 1967, Plate between page 48-49. Text: " 'FOLIE D'ESPAGNE' (floribunda). Raised by O. Sonderhousen, Denmark. Trial Ground Certificate 1965".
Mention of the Trial Ground Certificate awarded to Folie d'Espagne p. 174 in The rose annual 1966, published by The Royal National Rose Society. St. Albans, 1966.
Text: FOLIE D'ESPAGNE (Flori.). Unnamed seedlings of own raising. Trial Ground No. 290. Reg. No. 962. Raiser: O. Sonderhousen, Denmark. A strong and sturdy variety producing good uniform growths. Foliage dark green and glossy. Blooms of 20 petals, 3 inches across when open, continuous flowering. Colour orange with scarlet at edge. Moderate fragrance.
In the article by A.P.C. Dickson: "My highlights of the year" in The rose annual 1966, p. 126, the rose is mentioned as one of the three roses (all bicolour) that won an award at the Nord Trials, but mentioned as 'Masquerade'. My grandfather has corrected this in his copy of the rose annual 1966. |
