Yes, it can revert back to Rosa gallica officinalis. If you go through the photos, you will see one which shows this at the Hamburg Botanical garden

I did have Rosa Mundi, and it did eventually completely revert to the Apothecary's rose. It took about six years from when I saw the first "reverted cane" to when it was finally overtaken. What I've been told since, is that if you want to keep it as Rosa Mundi, to cut off the reverted cane, as close as you can to the point of attachment - just as you would a bit of rootstock that suckers. (apologies if you already know this). And, if you want an Apothecary's rose, you could use the reverted cane to take cuttings and make yourself a new plant. As it strikes quite easily.

very helpful! It seems to be a VERY slow change, so nice to hear you confirm your experience. Thanks!

Just be aware that all the Gallicas, and Old European Roses in general, will sucker if grown on their own roots. That's why they're survivors. Some are more aggressive than others.

I didn't realise I could have stopped the reversion if I'd cut the affected canes off. I'm about to order it again as I did love it. And if it starts reverting again that is what I'll try this time around. Cheers.

The Rosa Mundi blooming at the E.M. Mills Rose Garden in Syracuse appears to have half striped, and half a solid pink color. Either a reversion or a seedling?
However, the PINK of both the striped and solid versions is MUCH lighter than the reddish pink seen in most pictures. Going to post pics soon.

The 1975 reference is interesting.

How bristly is this rose? I've read only one comment that it is thornless, and haven't found any others.
