Rose de Schelfhout Parmentier (Belgique), before 1847.
Habit: shrub, not as upright as the Gallica type; 1,20 m tall and wide; few hooked prickles and very few bristles. Foliage: very light green; very fine elliptical leaflets. Bloom: solitary or in clusters of 2 to 4; medium to small, double, magnificently quartered; beautiful crown of petals in the periphery of the corolla. Colour: pale flesh-pink. Fragrance: medium to strong.
This magnificent variety was obtained by Louis Parmentier of Enghien: it is thus from before 1847. In Sangerhausen it is dated 1840. In his catalogue of 1851 Van Houtte of Ghent, the friend of the Late Parmentier, describes "full, white, lightly flesh-coloured" : one can probably qualify this as flesh-pink more than "white, shaded flesh", but it is a fact that it is very pale, at the limit of what is admissible for a Gallica.
