If anyone on here HAS this rose, PLEASE CONTACT VINTAGE GARDENS or ROGUE VALLEY or ANYONE! I had a personal conversation with Greg at Vintage a few months ago and he noted they no longer have this at all. To the point he has contacted past purchasers and none of THEM have it. Greg supposes Fantan, 1959 Meilland, is now actually extinct as he had also talked with others who once carried it in addition to past purchasers. If anyone has this, PLEASE contact someone who can assist in getting this back "out there" how ever limited it may be..............

Good luck! I imported this mule from LeGrice back in the early 80s. Even budded (which is the ONLY way to grow it!), it is the most intractable rose I've ever fought. Amazing colors with the occasional beautiful flower on one of the most horrid plants imaginable. Much, MUCH worse than Grey Pearl for keeping alive. At its best, it will develop into about a two and a half foot plant and flower from spring to fall, but then it will suddenly begin pushing every growth bud into service, turn very olive green then die to the root. It is one of the perfect examples of a rose which WILL root, but which will refuse to perform or even live very long on its own roots. It proves that just because you can root something, it doesn't mean you should.

Margaret, I am not very well received on here. Whether intentional or not, your post just made me smile.

Actually, I tried to remove it, as being just flippant, but I have trouble with the Delete button. But if it made you grin, that's good.

Yes, you are well received here. We all get the same kinds of COMMENTS you have received. Your contributions about the roses in your life will stay with the rose page and site users in the future will be reading them, too ... and learning.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share your experiences with your roses.

Smiles,
Lyn
