Royal Velvet HT. (Meilland, 1960) So far, every bloom has lacked form - all have been like confused rosettes, but they have been in the spring and early summer. Many varieties perform like this, notably 'Rouge Meilland', but they give wonderful autumn flowers. It was autumn 1958 when I saw 'Royal Velvet' in the United States and every bloom was superb - rich deep red and of perfect show form. Growth is excellent.
