Origin:
Bred by Jean Touvais (France, before 1860).
Introduced in Australia by Thomas Lang in 1866 as 'Duc de Cazes'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark purple, violet shading.  Strong fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Duc de Cazes, Honorary President of the Société de l'Horticulture de Paris in 1853. Lived in 26, rue Jacob, Paris.
Mons le Duc Decazes [sic], who died suddenly in Paris October 24th [1860]. He was over 80 years old... [He was] the founder and keeper of the rich nurseries of the Luxembourg, and was the person who put together the greatest collection of grape-vines in the entire world...
