Great Garden palnts says "Maintenance & pruning: Do not prune for 2-3 years after planting. Prune to remove deadwood, to control or direct growth, and to promote flowering. Wait until growth breaks in early spring before pruning. Every 2 or 3 years, remove about one-third of the old branches to stimulate new, fresh growth."

This rose does really well for me in our hot summers that seldom have highs below the nineties until September. It blooms constantly and doesn't mind the heat (with deep watering and a few hours of daily shade).

Does anyone know how this does in extreme heat? I'm looking for a climber that will continue to bloom through high 90's-100 degree heat during the month of July in Albuquerque NM, sited against a west-facing wall (blistering location). The prior months (May, June are less hot, 80-s-90s) and the following months similar. I need a rose that doesn't shut down in the heat, and also that doesn't have the blooms completely fry the day they open up!
