I have wondered if this was the seedling parent listed for Easy Does It. Weeks probably asked for the parentage for Easy Does It, and Harkness could have just listed parents individuals so as to not give away the parents of this cultivar. Given the timeline and unusual traits, this is my conspiracy theory ;)

The description page says Welsh Gold has a strong fragrance, but doesn't say what specific kind of fragrance. Can anyone tell me?

Also, someone commented that Welsh Gold isn't especially prolific in blooms. Can anyone else tell me your experience with how prolific its blooms are (or aren't)? I'd especially like to know how it performs in a hot-dry-summers climate.

Heirloom Roses rates this as a zone 5. Does anyone have any experience with its actual hardiness? HMF has is listed as a zone 7.

Here's a comment posted with a photo:

21 June 2009, Longmont Colorado USA, my garden (zone 5b). This rose, planted five years ago, has been durable in winter temperatures that average between 0F and 20F, and occasionally touch -20F or a little below. In addition, it has survived summer droughts that have brought water restrictions and summer temperatures where the daily high regularly tops 90F. In the very alkaline soil of our garden, the color tends more toward a light apricot than toward the deeper shades in other photos of this rose. It is not especially prolific in blooms, but it is one of the hardiest roses I have tried to grow here
