There are certain contradictions concerning 'Berti Gimpel'. The rose shown (and sold in 2008) at Sangerhausen certainly is not the cultivar described by Jacobs in the 'Gartenwelt' of 1913, the first (and only ?) first hand description of this rose. While Jacobs describes it as an HP with large flowers, the rose at Sangerhausen has the characteristics of a Polyantha with clusters of small flowers. At Sangerhausen it is labelled as a polyantha as well.

Rosenverzeichnis of 2005 still lists it as an HP by Altmüller. Maybe the labels were confused at one time. If you have photos of the polyantha, we could create a second "Berti Gimpel".

Hi, I do have photos of the "Sangerhausen Berti Gimpel" and the Sangerhausen labelling, both shot in June 2008. If the cultivar shown at Sangerhausen is indeed one of Altmüller's cultivars, the descriptions given by Jacobs would fit better to one of Altmüllers polyanthas. Looking up the descriptions my favourite would be 'Charlotte Maertz'.(thought extinct)

We have added 'Berti Gimpel (polyantha)' as a new rose and would appreciate if you would upload both photos there, too. If it is indeed a mislabeled polyantha by Altmüller, it could also be 'Frau Ada Rehfeld'. Difficult to say from the short descriptions available.

Done. You could be right with 'Frau Ada Rehfeldt'. I think I can detect a sort of yellow in the bottom left flower. As - whatever it is - is now growing in my garden I will observe it.
