Still puzzled why this is under the class of Hybrid Tea when the patent is for Grandiflora. Grows like one too and was sold by as one also by nurseries. I did see the note below with the Hybridizer.

The rose was registered with the ARS as a hybrid tea, which is the prerogative of the person or entity registering the rose. Now that you've clarified that it grows like a grandiflora, HMF will add that classification to the information about this rose, along with the registration information. Thanks for your insight.

Many times a hybridyzer will register their rose as a hybrid tea rather than a grandiflora just because more people prefer the hybrid tea to the grandiflora and the resulting sales of the rose will be better classed as a HT than a GR.
You have to make up your own mind if that is a bit sneaky or not. I have seen it many many times before.
However, I have had an instance or two just the opposite. A rose is classified as a grandiflora and the rose I get rarely ever throws multiples or sprays when blooming. I think you just have to research and study and hopefully get what you want.

What ever class this has, it's a giant in my garden and for 10 months a year, I use it to fragrance my bath with daily roses. :)

I thought the purpose of grouping roses into classes was to give people an idea of their likely growth habits and blooming features, to help them make more informed choices. If the hybridizer is allowed to register a rose as whatever class he or she chooses, for personal reasons like money, then this purpose isn't being well served.

The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the grandiflora class which was originated by me by crossing the variety `JACheir`, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 9,397, with the variety `JACsedi`, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 9,172.

Wonderful rose! It is an absolute must have. Very very strong scent. It is a beautiful bush and it is BS resistant. One of my favorites out of more than 75 fragrant roses.

I've read that Purple Passion blooms well in heat. Can anyone tell me whether it is also disease resistant in zone 9 heat?

This rose has bloomed non stop since Mar 29th and is still in bloom 10-27 today, no disease problems no bloom problems with heat up to 112 so far. This rose bush is in full sun, grows tall and nicely wide and is densely thick unlike a lot Hybrid Teas. I'm in the central valley, CA zone 9.

Purple Passion has a wonderful fragrance, I'd rate it a 10 and is about 5' tall now and grows densely thick and about 4'wide. I'd have to go measure for exact. Blooms at 100's, brown, but buds are good to go. But it makes a good cut rose that's what I use it for, my bud vases. It blooms in clusters, but there are some singles. I can still cut enough to always have one in a vase every day for all the months it's in bloom, even between flushes I have a rose at least. It's not purple, in the house it's darker, but it's still more a dark mauve than anything. Blooms don't have a perfect form but I don't want it for that, I like it for the fragrance. I've never had any touch of PM or BS on this bush and it sits in front of a sprinkler which is how it's watered. Regular pest problem are aphids in early spring and grasshoppers in the summer. They like the buds as much as I do. I'm in the central valley, south of Fresno, zone 9.
