This is a funny little rose. Mine is 2 years old, about 4' high and 3.5' wide and has been in a container since I bought it. It bloomed tremendously early this spring and then was infested with spider mites so badly I thought it was all but dead. Just as I started to pull it out of its pot, I noticed new growth - leaves and buds(!) both. That was about 2 weeks ago. Now it is again loaded with buds and about to bloom again. This is a truly remarkable plant having survived the mite infestation and last year's hot dry summer here in Dallas. It gets my recommendation! Sorry to say I just lost this great plant to the spider mites again. So I want to edit my recommendation. I loved it while it lasted, though.

I bought my Crackling Fire a year ago and it has done extremely well. It is now March here in Dallas TX and I have about 30-50 buds on it. The bush is a bit taller and wider than advertised even though it has lived in a pot on my patio since I brought it home. During our hot summer here the flowers were fewer and the color faded somewhat but once the cooler weather arrived, it went back to lots of blooms and that beautiful color up until we finally had some cold weather in December. It seems to be a pretty hardy plant and I have had no problems with black spot, mildew, or pests so far.
