Origin:
Bred by Dr. Eckart Haenchen (Germany, before 1972).
Introduced in Germany by Victor Teschendorff in 1972 as 'Bernstein'.
Class:
Polyantha.  
Bloom:
Orange and yellow.  None to mild fragrance.  up to 18 petals.  Average diameter 3.25".  Medium, double (17-25 petals), cupped-to-flat bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Rounded buds.  
Habit:
Medium, glossy, dark green foliage.  5 leaflets.  

Height: 1' to 2' (30 to 60cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Notes:
A number of East German roses seem to have been marketed in the UK under the Tesco label.
