August Jager is quite correct in what he says about 'melle' it is a local diallect shorthand for Amellia. It has been used in my own family which is of german descent.this even now though im sixth generation australian. So to use the word mademoiselle there would be innaccurate if it replaces the proper nomenclature.but if used the melle it would be in place.

How interesting! François Joyaux probably thought this was the French abbreviation M'elle for Mademoiselle.
